MEDC Privatisation Study
Muscat: - Electricity Holding Company (EHC), the holdingcompany of a government-owned group ofcompanies engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution, supply andprocurement of electricity in Oman, announced a plan to float a public tenderto issue the Request for Proposal (RFP) to undertake the strategic study for theprivatization of Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC), a subsidiary ofEHC, as per the directives of the Government represented by the Ministry ofFinance (MOF) and the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW).
The purpose of the study is to explore privatizationoptions and to assess the readiness of MEDC for privatization. The objectivesof MEDC Privatization is to promote private sector participation in the nationalbuilding process and to enhance the value for staff, customers and shareholders.
MEDC is a joint stock Omani company which wasformed as a result of the restructuring of the electricity and related watersector under the Sector Law promulgated by Royal Decree number 87/2004. MEDC islicensed by Authority for Electricity Regulation (AER) for the distribution andsupply of electricity in Muscat Governorate.
